Plant Care & Troubleshooting Guide
Simple, practical guidelines customized for tropical and subtropical Indian apartment environments.
1. Unboxing Your New Plant Arrival
Plants experience travel shock just like humans! After unpacking:
- Keep the plant in bright indirect light for 48 hours. Avoid harsh direct sun immediately.
- Check soil moisture by dipping your index finger 1 inch into the potting mix. Water gently if dry.
- Do not repot immediately. Allow the plant 7-10 days to adapt to your room's temperature and humidity.
2. The Golden Rule of Watering
More houseplants in India perish from overwatering than underwatering! Always check the top 1-2 inches of soil before adding water. If the soil clings to your fingers, wait another day. Ensure your pot has clear drainage holes so excess water escapes freely into the saucer.
3. Understanding Sunlight Levels
- Low to Medium Indirect: Sansevieria Snake Plant, ZZ Plant, Aglaonema (tolerates corners and office fluorescent bulbs).
- Bright Filtered Light: Peace Lily, Monstera Deliciosa, Fiddle Leaf Fig, Areca Palm (placed 2-3 feet from an east or north window).
- Full Direct Sun: Mogra Jasmine, Desi Rose, Bougainvillea, Fruit saplings (require 4-6 hours open balcony sunshine).
4. Seasonal Nutrition & Feeding
Feed with organic vermicompost or seaweed extract once every 3-4 weeks during peak active growing seasons (Spring to Monsoon). Avoid excessive fertilizer during colder winter dormancy.
